Household Needs

The first step in making a refugee, SIV or asylum-seeker feel at home is simply providing them with a welcoming and comfortable place to live. Many of these families are coming from refugee camps or other places that are a far cry from feeling like home.

Homes Not Borders provides all the required furnishings and household items, according to the UNHCR, for newly arriving refugee families. We also add special touches like rugs, pictures, small kitchen appliances, side tables, and toys that help to make a house a home. Without our assistance the average refugee family would have to spend $3,200 out of their already meager stipend!
