Development & Communications Intern
Job Description:
The Development and Communications Intern would assist with Homes Not Border’s fundraising and social media. This is an internship built to be semester based for a full or part time college or post graduate student living in the DC area, there can be flexibility around academic work such as exams so long as the intern gives ample (greater than a week warning) Intern may be required to work in person 1 day a week, as needed. We are happy to verify or complete at paperwork related to internships for credit.
Dates:
- Applications: Rolling, starting March 15, 2023
- Start Date: June 1st (at earliest) – End Date: End of Summer Semester (TBD)
Location:
- Landover, MD, travel required to DC and suburbs in VA and MD
Responsibilities
- Research and help analyze grant opportunities
- Assist with grant applications
- Pursue small business donors
- Manage HNB social media accounts including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn
- Occasionally will be asked to support home set ups or drop offs (~ 9 AM -2 PM)
- Support HNB staff in other projects including creating promotional materials, preparing or helping with events
Requirements
- Organized
- Flexible
- Self-motivated
- Able to perform a few hours of physical labor moving

- Proficiency with Google Suite of products
- Drivers License + Car/Personal Transportation
- Resource creation and graphic design experience is a plus
- Experience working or living with refugee or immigrant communities is a plus
- Fluent or conversational knowledge of Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Swahili, Amharic, Ukrainian, or Spanish is a HUGE plus
Hours
- Part Time: 15 hours a week.
- Computer-based work can be done at home
- Occasional help with client home set ups based at our warehouse in Landover, MD

Housing and Donation Support Intern
Job Description:
The Housing and Donation Support Intern would assistant with Homes Not Border’s main Home Set Up program on the ground and in the back office to help house newly arrived refugees. This is an internship built to be semester based for a full or part time college or post graduate student living in the DC area, there can be flexibility around academic work such as exams so long as the intern gives ample (greater than a week warning) Intern required to work in person 2 days a week, out of Monday or Saturday and Tuesday or Thursday. We are happy to verify or complete at paper work related to internships for credit.
Dates:
- Applications: Rolling, starting March 15, 2023
- Start Date: June 1st (at earliest) – End Date: End of Summer Semester (TBD)
Location:
- Landover, MD, travel required to DC and suburbs in VA and MD
Responsibilities
- Support or lead 1 home set up and 1 drop off day a week. (~ 9 AM -2 PM)
- Manage and respond to emails in the HNB Info Account on weekdays (~1 hour)
- Support as needed with Donation in take and donation pick up scheduling
- Support HNB staff in other projects including creating promotional materials, preparing events or ongoing post resettlement projects benefiting clients
Requirements

- Excel/Google Sheets proficiency
- Drivers License + Car/Personal Transportation
- Experience working or living with refugee or immigrant communities is a plus

Hours
- Part Time: 20 hours a week.
- 12 hours required onsite or in the warehouse.

Family Services Intern
The Family Assistance Intern would support Homes Not Border’s Family Services department both on the ground and in the back office helping to organize incoming requests from local families, processing applicants to the Moving Up Fund housing subsidy program and supporting the New Neighbors Artisan Program.
This is an internship built to be semester based for a full or part time
college or post graduate student living in the DC area, there can be
flexibility around academic work such as exams so long as the intern gives ample warning. Intern will likely need to be able to come into the office or work in person once a week, either on Tuesday or Thursday, the rest of work can be completed remotely. We are happy to verify or complete any paperwork related to internships for credit.

Location:

Responsibilities
- Support HNB’s New Neighbor Design Artisan Program through the tracking of sales, keeping an inventory of finished products, compiling skill lists, distributing raw materials and collecting finished works from artisans.
- Help organize ssistance requests through the HNB Intake Form
- Input cases into the new Knack Database System to ensure easier internal tracking of resources and services provided to families
- Assist in processing applications for the HNB Moving Up Fund providing housing subsidies on a monthly basis
- Support additional Family Services Programs as needed at request of the Family Services Manager

- Experience working or living with refugee or immigrant communities is a plus

- Part Time: 15 hours a week, likely broken down as 7 hours onsite or in the warehouse.

BOARD MEMBERS NEEDED!!!
Join the board of Homes Not Borders as we continue to grow into a strong non-profit supporting our new refugee neighbors in the DC Metro area.
Time Commitment:
• Three – six hours a month
• Two years
Requirements:
• Committed to the mission of Homes Not Borders to help refugees and asylum seekers feel at home in the United States
• Attend monthly board meetings – via zoom or in-person (when we can!)
• Be a part of a board committee when committees are formed
• Willingness to give financially in a way that is significant but within your means
• Willingness to leverage your networks to connect others to Homes Not Borders as volunteers and/or donors
Responsibilities:
• Set the budget for Home Not Borders and oversee the finances
• Hire and manage the executive director
• Fundraise among your network
• Promote and advocate for Homes Not Borders and its mission
• Provide insight and ideas on programming, policies, and the direction of Homes Not Borders
